Former UN Secretary-General Praises Hun Sen's Leadership

PHNOM PENH, September 13, 2024 — During his visit to South Korea for the 25th World Knowledge Forum, Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, met with former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on September 11.

Ban Ki-moon welcomed Hun Sen’s visit and congratulated him on his new role as Senate President. He praised Hun Sen's leadership in bringing peace to Cambodia and strengthening Cambodia-South Korea relations, highlighting his role as a visionary ASEAN leader.

Hun Sen thanked Ban Ki-moon for his efforts in maintaining peace in Cambodia and contributing to the establishment of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), which provided justice for victims of the Khmer Rouge regime.

Hun Sen also expressed his gratitude for South Korea's ongoing contributions to Cambodia’s development and lauded the Cambodia-South Korea Free Trade Agreement for boosting economic cooperation. He hoped for the realization of the Cambodia-South Korea Friendship Bridge soon.
